  Landscape Designs

I specialize in residential designs.

There are a lot of design styles for you to choose from: California-Mediterranean, Italian/Tuscan, English Garden, Asian, Tropical, Californian Natives, Succulents, or perhaps an eclectic mix is more to your liking.

It will explain the design process and show you examples of actual landscape designs I've done. .

  Landscape Renovations

Planting should be more than just placing a shrub or tree in a hole you've just dug.

Proper planting techniques and correct spacing are key components in establishing a healthy, easy to maintain landscape. All our plantings will have the proper backfill, typically a mixture of your existing soil and one or more amendments depending on your particular situation. Those amendments could include; nitrolized redwood or fir shavings, compost, humus, pumice, DG and gypsum. These amendments are added to provide organic material to our clay soils which help to aerify the soil and promote better drainage, two factors crucial to healthy plants.

Choosing the correct plants ensures you will have the proper shapes, colors and combinations of texture in your landscape.

I go to growers and nurseries from Los Angeles to San Diego to hand select the best, most appropriate plants for your project. Many of our plants come directly from Monrovia, one of the premier growers in the entire country.

  Go Lawnless

Are you thinkng about going lawnless?

There are many attractive ways to design a front yard without a lawn that will increase your home's curb appeal.

An inviting landscape doesn't require a large, thirsty expanse of grass. You can say good-by to your 'mow and blow' gardener and save money every month on your water bill by removing your lawn.

Lawns can be replaced with any mixture of trees, shrubs, succulents, perennials and ground covers. All of these can be a beautiful alternative to a lawn that guzzles water and needs mowing every week.

If you don't want to entirely lose your lawn, we can gradually shift toward a front yard with more plants and less lawn. We can establish deeper planting beds that curve around a smaller area of grass and perhaps add an inviting path.

  Landscape Clean-ups

Is your landscape looking a little tired? Has your weekly 'mow and blow' gardener just been mowing the grass and neglecting the rest of your landscape? Do you want your yard looking its best for a special event? Are you selling your house?

We can fix all your landscaping problems with a one time clean-up.

Our clean-up services include pruning shrubs and hedges, pest control, planting and/or removing plants, weeding, fertilizing and mulching your flower beds, planting colorful annuals, repairing your sprinklers - whatever needs to be done to make your landscape look great again.

  Irrigation

Do your sprinklers water your sidewalk and driveway leaving dry, brown patches in your lawn?

We can adjust your spray heads so you're only applying water where you want, ensuring a healthier lawn and plants while saving you money. If needed, we'll install adjustable arc nozzles which eliminates the typical overspray associated with fixed arc spray nozzles.

Or, we can retrofit your present spray nozzles to the new, efficient rotary nozzles. Rotary nozzles rotate emitting multiple streams of water at one-third of the rate of conventional spray heads, allowing the soil to more efficiently absorb the water. Many local water districts are giving you rebates for conversion to rotating nozzles because of their water-saving advantages. Saving water saves you money.

Are you thinking about installing drought tolerant plants to save on your water bill? We can convert spray zones in those areas to a drip irrigation system that puts the water exactly where it's needed.

  Slopes

Slopes are one of the biggest landscape challenges most homeowners face.

Slopes need cleanups, planting, mulch and proper irrigation to look their best. Let us take care of your troublesome slope for you.

A cleanup removes unwanted plants. We'll replace those with ground cover, shrubs or trees, whatever is appropriate for your particular situation.

Then we can set up proper slope irrigation, be it   MP Rotators,   Drip Irrigation,  Spray Nozzles  or  Rotors  so your plants get the water they need to thrive.

And finally, we'll mulch the slope. A nice thick layer of mulch allows the water to infiltrate the soil rather than run off. Not to mention, a mulched slope looks so much better than bare soil.

  Succulents and Native Plants

Lower your water bills by re-landscaping with drought tolerant native plants and succulents. Succulents can create a beautiful, dramatic visual effect that require very little maintenance or water.

  Mulch

Mulching is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your plants and soil.

A 2 - 3" layer of mulch will suppress weeds, help moderate the soil temperature and retain moisture, reducing the need for watering. Mulch reduces soil compaction and prevents crusting of the soil surface, allowing the water to slowly infiltrate the soil rather than run off the bare dirt. Mulch is particularly effective on slopes.

Organic mulches - wood chips, bark, or compost - improve the soil over time by adding organic matter as they decompose. Mulch also encourages earthworms and other beneficial soil organisms that help improve soil structure and the availability of nutrients for your plants.

If you have plant beds near your pool, you'll want to use pebbles like these to limit the amount of debris that finds its way into the water.

Mulch also enhances the look of your garden. Mulches provide a rich color and texture that highlights the plants, a look that bare dirt just can't match.
